DRUG SEARCHES

Good for the Farmington Police Department and good for Farmington High
School officials ("Youths face drug charges: Nine officers take dogs on
sweep through Farmington High's parking lot," April 10).

It is because of the careful watch over our children by school officials
and their partnership with the police department that Farmington remains a
safe and enviable place to live.

These officials cared enough to take the time and spend the money to ensure
that the school remained as drug-free as possible. That is why I do not
mind paying high taxes. That was why I did not worry about my children when
they were in the Farmington school system. This is why I do not have bars
on my windows.

Would I have minded if those dogs had gone through my car when my children
were at school? Would I mind if their belongings were searched in their
locker or on their person? Absolutely not. I would welcome it. If you have
nothing to hide, you do not consider it a violation of your human rights.
You consider it a protection of your human rights. If you do have something
to hide and get caught, be prepared to suffer the consequences. You are
breaking the law and should be punished.
