CARNEGIE ADMISSION CRITERION DEFENDED

John Turvey and Dean Wilson say that Carnegie Centre bars certain
individuals from its premises ["Carnegie Nailed With Human-Rights Claim",
April 12-19]. These individuals are either drug users, drug addicts, or
intravenous drug addicts.

Sometimes it's hard to know what word to use; each word represents
someone's prized turf. And Mary-Woo Sims likes addiction to alcohol or
other drugs to be classified as a disability; she wants to expand her turf too.

I've been going to Carnegie Centre for many years. People are barred
because of how they act on the premises (and I'm glad they are), not
because they have track marks on their arm. Deportment, not drug use, has
been the criterion for getting through the security or for being ejected.
Were drug use the criterion, the place would be near empty and, I think,
understaffed.
