MAYOR SHOULD GO FIRST IN DRUG TESTING
Well, it appears the mayor is out to make another big splash in the world
of politically correct things to do.
I guess he is correct in desiring to drug test those who carry out the laws
and have the safety of others in their hands. Are he and his staff going to
submit to testing?
Remember, the No. 1 person in Charleston responsible for the safety and
welfare of the public is the mayor.
I would follow up with the public works director and staff who salt the
roads, ambulance personnel, and all other personnel, elected or appointed,
who are called out for emergency situations.
Even councilmen and women who are responsible for the safety of the public
should be in this group. In the federal government, it is a leadership-down
initiative when drug testing is called for.
I can agree with this process if it is fair and equitable.
The mayor should lead by example. He should get in line and fill up those
bottles like those he leads. City leaders should be willing to put up or
shut up.
