LOCKE SIGNS METH-DRUG BILL, SID MEASURE AND 37 OTHERS

Although Gov. Gary Locke called the breastfeeding bill "our big bill," he
also signed 39 others into law Thursday.

They include:

Senate Bill 5017, which limits the sale, purchase and possession of
over-the-counter drugs that can be used to make methamphetamine. As of July
19, it will be a gross misdemeanor, punishable by up to a year in jail, to
sell or buy more than three packages of products containing ephedrine,
pseudoephedrine or phenylpropanolamine in a single transaction or a 24-hour
period. It will also be illegal to possess more than 15 grams of those
substances. It won't apply to prescriptions.

House Bill 1216 requires training for those who investigate the sudden
deaths of infants and those who perform the autopsies on the babies.
Supporters hope higher standards and consistent responses will help as they
search for a cause for sudden infant death syndrome.

SB 6020 will help children from low-income families get better access to
dental care. It allows dental hygienists and assistants to apply
decay-preventing sealants and fluoride varnishes to children's teeth at
schools without the presence of a dentist.

House Bill 1002 protects the privacy of public employees by banning public
agencies from releasing their home phone numbers and addresses.
