POLICE SHOOT AND KILL TEEN IN DRUG RAID

A 17-year-old man was shot and killed Tuesday during a drug raid in
Wharton. Law enforcement officials said Daniel Castillo Jr. was shot
by a member of the police department's Emergency Response Team during
the serving of a search warrant.

The officer's identity was not released. Police Captain Richard
Coleman said only that the officer is a six-year veteran. Police
declined to comment on what instigated the shooting.

"I don't know at this point," Coleman said when asked if Castillo was
armed. The 17-year-old was taken by ambulance Tuesday morning to Gulf
Coast Medical Center and then flown by Critical Air to Houston. An
autopsy is expected to be conducted sometime today.

Around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, officers served a search warrant at 1409
Sunset. Members of the Emergency Response Team, Sheriff's Tactical and
Response team and the District Attorney's Narcotics Task Force
participated.

Castillo reportedly lived at the address with his parents.

Two men were also arrested at the scene. Richard Castillo Jr., 35, was
charged with evading arrest/detention and possession of drug
paraphernalia. Jerome Hawkins, 20, was charged with possession of a
controlled substance with intent to deliver.
