SEIZING GROW-OPERATORS' KIDS 'DESTRUCTIVE'
Constable Mark Tonner's recent column advocating the seizure of
children living in the homes of marijuana growers is a sad testimony
to the historically destructive attitude of police and provincial
authorities towards families and children.
Taking away the children of marijuana growers and smokers is no
different than seizing the Doukhobor children or the many First
Nations children who were torn from their families over the years.
Although a number of children have come to harm while in the care of
the B.C. Ministry of Families, I have yet to see a headline about a
child harmed in a B.C. grow-op.
Considering the many thousands of operations in the province, that is
a testimony to their safety, despite their illegality.
