CHILDREN REJECT D.A.R.E. PROGRAM FOR GOOD REASON
You've asked for comments on teaching D.A.R.E., rather than doing nothing
at all.
I find the question incredible!
Do you seriously want our children to hear an anti-drug message that is
based on obviously invalid research? Do you want our children to be
encouraged to tell the police about their pot-smoking parents?
Children reject D.A.R.E. for good reason. We should be proud of them for
doing so.
This said, I will agree that we should be providing drug education for our
children, informing them of the very real risks inherent in any drug use.
It should include information on cigarettes and alcohol, as well as
dangerous prescription drugs such as Ritalin and Prozac. If such education
is to be valuable, however, it must be the truth - not the lies of the U.S.
drug warriors who crafted Reefer Madness and its ideological grandchild,
D.A.R.E.
