DON'T GIVE UP, ALASKA: MARIJUANA SHOULD BE LEGAL

I'm glad a full 41 percent of Alaskans voted hemp/marijuana legal in nearly
every way, shape and form. And rightly it should be legal. This I say
having had close acquaintance with this herb for over 30 years.

If Shakespeare or an African Pygmy had/has the liberty, why does our
government prohibit it? Any why governmental law but not the culture of the
people? Which is worse, unfounded fear of the masses or liberty of each to
their own?

Are you going to imprison the terminally ill? Are you going to tell my
child I am a criminal while you sip your martini? Would you prohibit all
other positive use of this plant with close-minded paranoia?

I want to grow hemp. It was used before and during biblical times. The
original U.S. flag of the 13 colonies was made of hemp.

This issue continues to irritate me. But I can't envision marijuana's
long-term prohibition because of its enjoyment by both young and old.

Freedom's worst enemy is fear of our fellows. In our fear we hide, build
walls and place locks. Freedom is lost quickest when those who witness an
injustice neglect their duty to speak out against it. Some good-hearted,
helpful people are imprisoned.

Don't give up yet, fellow Alaskans! If it can be done in any state, it can
be done here!
