CASPER'S SON HEADED FOR PRISON

SAN DIEGO - David Casper, the son of two-time U.S. Open champion
Billy Casper, pleaded guilty to 35 felonies in a 1999 crime spree that
included burglarizing his parents' home and stealing a family car.

The 28-year-old Casper faces nearly 200 years in state prison when
sentenced June 6.

"You'll probably think of yourself as an old man by the time you are
out," Judge Frederic Link said Monday. "But it will allow you,
someday, to get out of prison."

He was high on methamphetamine and heroin in October and November of
1999, his lawyer said, when he committed offenses nearly every day in
a two-state crime spree.

He burglarized his parents' home and drove off with his sister's car,
then stole another car at gunpoint and later robbed people in parking
lots and held up area businesses.

He then fled to Las Vegas, where he continued robbing businesses until
his arrest.

The golfer's son pleaded guilty last year to armed robbery in Nevada
and was sentenced to 25 years in prison, which he will serve in
California as part of a plea agreement.
