VANCOUVER ENABLES ADDICTS

Calgary also has many new arrivals, but I have never seen any area of that
city where dope smoking and needle injection commonly occur in full view of
the public (Vancouver: Home of the terminal addict, April 28). If Bruce K.
Alexander views Vancouver as a city of the addicted, it is because that
behaviour is tolerated here.

B.C. governments do little to effectively curtail the drug culture while
they collect lucrative levies on and addiction, it is easier for the
politicians to use the Downtown Eastside as a dumping ground for the
unwanted and pay them welfare.

B.C. taxpayers are supporting a social services system that spends three
times as much as Alberta, a province with a population only 25 per cent
smaller than ours. It is time for the taxpayers to demand that their money
be spent more wisely.
