TRAFFICKING IN AN ANTIHISTAMINE

Federal drug agents arrested more than 50 people and issued about 50 other
warrants in a dozen cities as part of a nationwide investigation into the
trafficking of pseudoephedrine, a prescription antihistamine used in
over-the-counter cold and flu medicines that is also the main ingredient in
methamphetamine, the Drug Enforcement Agency said. Over the last year,
officials said, the agency has tracked a network that smuggled
Canadian-manufactured pseudoephedrine into the country, largely through
Detroit and Chicago. The pills were sold to methamphetamine laboratories on
the West Coast, many of them in California, officials said.
