PAIN DRUG SHIPMENTS SUSPENDED
The company that makes the painkiller OxyContin announced it was
temporarily suspending some shipments of the narcotic. OxyContin is a
time-released drug used to treat long-term and severe pain. Health
authorities have linked illegal use of the drug to about 120
overdose-related deaths since 1995. The company, Purdue Pharma, said
it was suspending shipments of only the 160 milligram tablet, the
highest dose, which should affect less than 1 percent of patients who
need the drug.
