8 NOMINATIONS ANNOUNCED
Washington - President Bush announced his intention to nominate eight people to
serve in his administration and formally nominated five others by
sending their names to the Senate, bringing to 97 the number awaiting
confirmation. The Senate confirmed 11 nominees, bringing the total to
51. The president drew from the House of Representatives for one
nominee, choosing Asa Hutchinson, Republican of Arkansas, to serve as
his administrator in the Drug Enforcement Administration. President
Bush also announced his intention to nominate as his drug czar John P.
Walters, who was deputy director of the office under Mr. Bush's father.
