UN ATTACKS HEROIN ROOM
THE UN's ``Drug Czar'' has criticised Australia's first legal heroin
injecting room, claiming it ``sends the wrong message''.
The powerful International Narcotics Control Board (INCB) will discuss
the start of the 18-month trial when it meets in Vienna next week.
INCB secretary Herbert Schaepe said from Vienna last night he was
``closely monitoring'' the trial of the injecting room in Kings Cross.
``What it is saying is that we condone the establishment of premises
where people can get together to use illicit drugs,'' he said.
