MAN ARRESTED ON DRUG CHARGES AFTER KILLING BURGLAR, POLICE SAY
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- A resident who shot to death a man suspected of
trying to break into a house was arrested when a handgun and large
amounts of cash and drugs were found during a search, police said Thursday.
The victim, who was not immediately identified, was found dead on the
driveway Wednesday night after Reginald Leslie, 29, called 911 to say
he had shot a burglar, police Chief David Moore said.
Police said Leslie told them he heard someone breaking into the
basement and, during a physical confrontation, grabbed hold of the
intruder's gun and shot him.
Investigators then obtained a search warrant and found about 1.6
pounds of cocaine, 1 pound of marijuana, more than $20,000 and a
stolen handgun in the house.
Leslie was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance
and marijuana as well as criminal possession of a weapon. He was not
charged in connection with the shooting but a grand jury is expected
to review the circumstances, police said.
