USE HEMP FOR RECYCLABLE CAR PARTS, RESEARCHER SAYS

SYDNEY, Australia - Don't hold your breath, but researchers in Australia
are working on the idea of a car made out of hemp.

The team at the University of New South Wales want to create car body parts
that are biodegradable. And they've found that the best fibrous plant for
the job might be hemp, which is made from the cannabis plant.

Professor Alan Crosky says getting rid of old cars is a growing problem,
especially in Europe. He says besides being biodegradable, parts made out
of hemp have the advantage of being light, which would make them ideal for
use in eco-friendly electric cars.

And he says, in theory, plant parts should be able to absorb a bigger
impact than metal parts can.
