Calloway officer charged

The deputy was arrested on allegations of drug activities following an
investigation by the FBI and state police.

Calloway County Deputy Sheriff Max Parrish was arrested Friday after
a six-week federal drug investigation.

Parrish, 45, of Murray, was arrested without incident by FBI agents
Friday afternoon at the sheriff's office, according to Jeffery
Lampinski, special agent in charge of the state's FBI office in
Louisville. The arrest was based on a federal complaint filed by the
FBI on Friday, alleging that Parrish manufactured, distributed,
dispensed, or possessed with the intent to manufacture, distribute or
dispense a controlled substance. It further
alleges that Parrish provided a cooperative witness with marijuana,
methamphetamine and other controlled substances.

Parrish will appear in federal court in Paducah on Monday.

County-Judge Executive Larry Elkins said he was notified of the
arrest late Friday afternoon by Sheriff Stan Scott. Elkins said he
was upset by the "disturbing turn of events," but did not know enough
about the case to comment further.

Scott, who the bureau said cooperated fully in the investigation, was
in a meeting at the sheriff's office all evening and could not be
reached for comment.

Lampinski said Scott encouraged investigators to review records both
at the sheriff's office on Maple Street and the Miller Courthouse
Annex, as well as to inspect Parrish's unmarked vehicle for evidence.
The document review and
vehicle inspection took place Friday afternoon. Investigators also
searched Parrish's Spiceland Drive residence.

The investigation was started by the FBI and the state police based
on information received that Parrish was involved in drug activities.
