DRUG CRIME COULD BE A WINDFALL FOR POLICE

OLYMPIA - This crime could pay the city's police department handsomely.

During an investigation into a drug-related murder, detectives seized $435,000.

The cash - $80,000 found in a duplex with a strangled woman's body and
marijuana, and $335,000 found in the suspects' vehicles in California -
must be held as evidence until May 31, deputy prosecuting attorney Mark
Thompson said. Then the department can file to have thte money forfeited.

The police department stands to claim whatever is left out of the money
after court costs, fines and the state's 10 percent share are subtracted.
