NOT TRULY CONSERVATIVE

Rocky Mountain News letter writer Mike Plylar was right on the mark in his
letter, "Marijuana foes seek self-aggrandizement" (May 31). However, I
disagree with his description of Educating Voices Inc., as a far-right
religious organization. "Far right" implies conservative.

As a "true" conservative, I am insulted by the hypocrisy of an organization
or person calling themselves conservative while supporting the policies of
prohibition.

Prohibition is the policy of the government dictating to adult citizens
what substances they may or may not put into their own bodies.

Prohibition is certainly not a policy that our Founding Fathers would favor
or tolerate.

Today, the prohibited substances are recreational drugs. Will the
prohibited substances of tomorrow be foods our government has deemed as
unhealthy?

There is a thin line between the prohibition of recreational drugs for
adult citizens and the prohibition of foods.

Will the politicians in the future call for a fat-free or sugar-free society?

For our own good, of course.
