POTHEAD PARADISE
To the editor:
Legislation allowing the medicinal use of pot brings one question to
mind. I think back to the Jessica Williams case, and I wonder: What
charges will the people be able to bring against the next person who
kills innocent people with her car while she is driving under the
influence of "medicinal pot"?
You cannot tell me it will not happen. One of these protected potheads
will be driving to his doctor, under the influence, to get his
prescription refilled. Or he will be driving while talking on his cell
phone, calling his doctor while rolling a joint, and he is going to kill
somebody and get away with it.
Then you are going to have the doctors who will write the prescriptions
for anyone who has enough money, whether they are sick or not. Just like
some doctors did when 'luudes were the drug of choice.
What about drug testing for employment? That's going to be out the
window, too. Next we will have some group tell us that alcohol is
necessary to ease some other kind of pain so why stop with pot? Why not
take all the drunken-driving laws off the books right now. That way,
anyone who can't handle pain or problems can drive or go to work under
the influence of his pain killer of choice.
The rest of us will just have to stay at home off the highways, away
from the sidewalks, crosswalks and medians. Let's not tell the tourist,
though. They might not understand that a legal pothead might be valet
parking their car or cooking their food.
