GANG WARFARE SENDS GUN MURDERS SOARING
RIVAL drug gang shootings have helped triple London's gun murder rate,
police said yesterday.
There were 13 fatal shootings in the capital in April and May compared to
just four in the same period in 2000, Scotland Yard figures show.
Five of those were probed by Operation Trident, a police task force which
targets Yardie crimes, while two were linked to Turkish cocaine gangs.
Overall, there were 42 murders in London in April and May, compared to 33
last year.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "The number of Operation Trident shootings
is one reason why gun murders seem to be up this year."
