CLEAR-HEADED EXCUSES

I have read about many killers who over-indulged in alcohol, drugs, etc.,
before committing a crime and then wanted their charges reduced because
they could not form a clear intent to murder someone (Murder of girl blamed
on LSD use, June 12).

Yet, and without being overly simplistic, these killers almost always seem
to have the cognizance to commit the crime, to cover it up, and to run and
hide from the authorities.
