JUSTICE IS COLORBLIND
According to the Associated Press, Wisconsin's Democratic Senator, Russ
Feingold, a death penalty opponent, objected that Juan Raul Garza, a
Hispanic and "a Texas drug-runner, convicted of killing one man and
ordering the death of another," was to be executed before completion of a
study by the Justice Department as to whether our federal execution system
treats minorities unfairly.
The very idea that a vile criminal's sentence be reduced because of his or
her race is outrageous -- especially coming from a senator. It is the
state's obligation to execute justice. Justice is colorblind. Garza was
executed because he -- beyond all reasonble doubt -- committed a crime
meriting execution (period, full stop).
To inject race into our justice system is to destroy justice. In America
there is only one race: American.
