DON'T COMPARE COURT TO 12-STEP PROGRAM
In response to "Helping addicts recover kids" (June
10):
I was offended by your reporter's comment that the family drug
treatment court sessions "seem more like 12-step gatherings than court
proceedings."
In 12-step meetings, participants aren't required to list vital
statistics about themselves. Whatever someone chooses to share is
absolutely voluntary.
Addiction is a disease, according to the American Medical Association,
and needs to be given the same respect you would show a person
suffering from cancer, diabetes or any other long-term illness.
