DRUG WAR

Re: "Big Brother has a brand new weapon," Terence Corcoran, Opinion,
June18.

Bravo to Terence Corcoran for his outstanding column. Regrettably, the
U.S. is responsible for the terrible virus called the war on drugs that
has spread to Canada and the rest of the world.

Canada, please don't allow American politicians to import to your
country any more of this insanity.

The U.S. war on drugs continues because it has created huge
bureaucracies of people, industries and institutions with vested
interests in its continuation and expansion.

The legalization of illegal recreational drugs would eliminate drug
dealers and drug lords as well as the need for so many prisons and law
enforcement personnel.

This is why people on both sides of the law with vested interests in
perpetuating the failed war on drugs will do anything in their power to
prevent illegal drugs from ever becoming legal.

So, please don't follow the U.S.'s lead regarding the unwinnable war on
drugs. We are not the example you want to follow.
