I am writing to thank you and your staff for allowing me the privilege
of submitting an article for publication (Heroin treatment program
deserves a fair hearing, Soapbox, 20/6).

Your response (Drug work not beyond public scrutiny, 21/6) was a
balanced and fair representation of the information given to The West
Australian by a variety of parties.

It is my belief that Colin Brewer, whose e-mail was quoted in The West
Australian, was misunderstood. Certainly in my telephone discussions
with Colin, we reached a decision not to take any implants to the UK
when I was travelling there.

The publication of these two articles allowed the earlier reports to
be seen in a more balanced way. I apologise to anyone on your staff
whom I may have offended while expressing my distress for the families
in Queensland who were denied treatment after a prolonged press campaign.
