BIG DRUG BUST MADE IN WALWORTH COUNTY

Four people will appear in court this week in connection with what is
believed to be the largest drug bust in Walworth County, officials said Monday.

Police suspect the four have ties to a house in the Town of Delavan where
more than 1 ton of marijuana, valued at about $1.8 million, was seized in a
raid Friday, officials said. The raid came after an investigation that took
several months, said Lt. Tim Schiefelbein, head of the Walworth County Drug
Enforcement Unit.

"It's unusual because of the quantity on hand at one time," said John
Giese, Elkhorn police chief and president of the drug unit's board of
directors. "But it's not necessarily unusual that there are drugs in
Walworth County."

The house, on Amos Road, was believed to be part of a marijuana
distribution network between Mexico and the United States. Marijuana was
hidden in several vehicles on the property. Authorities seized five
vehicles, a rifle and an undisclosed amount of cash.

The marijuana was described as "commercial grade" worth about $900 a pound.

Two men and a woman are being held in the Walworth County Jail in lieu of
$2 million bail each. Their initial court appearance is set for Friday.

Another man, who faces a misdemeanor charge of obstructing an officer, is
expected to make an initial appearance today.

Two of the men arrested were from Texas.

The investigation is continuing as police try to find others involved with
the network.

"We're trying to put the links together," Schiefelbein said.
