FOREMAN: ROMANOWSKI GOT DRUG LEGALLY
The foreman of the jury that acquitted Denver Broncos linebacker Bill
Romanowski of prescription-drug fraud said prosecutors didn't prove the
player obtained a diet drug illegally.
Romanowski was acquitted Friday in Castle Rock, Colo., during a trial in
which prosecutors claimed he obtained the appetite suppressant phentermine
from prescriptions written for his wife, Julie, and two other people.
Foreman Dean Jakubczak said Sunday the jury didn't think Romanowski
possessed the drugs illegally because the prescriptions, though written
under other names, were intended for him.
Women's javelin mark falls
Osleidys Menendez of Cuba set a world record in the women's javelin with a
throw of 234 feet, 8 inches in Athens, Greece. Menendez shattered the mark
of 227-11, which was set by Trine Solberg-Hallestad of Norway last July.
Julian Lorcy (49-2-2) won the World Boxing Association lightweight title
with a unanimous decision over defending champion Takanori Hatakeyama
(24-2-3) in Saitama, Japan.
