EVICTION TIME TO BE CUT FOR DRUG TRAFFICKERS
The amount of time a tenant has to move out after being evicted for illegal
drug activity will be halved, to 10 days from 20, under new Ontario
government regulations.
But tenants rights advocates say the amendment is bad news for renters.
Their complaint is that tenants do not have to be criminally charged to be
evicted. A landlord has to prove to the Ontario Rental Housing Tribunal
only that the tenant was likely trafficking drugs.
