SECOND GROW OP BUSTED
A second grow operation in the same house that was raided last year, has
police asking landlords not to turn a blind eye to activities in their
rental properties.
Police had been working a search warrant for the home in the 700 block of
River Parade for over a month and a half finally gaining access to the home
on June 21, and discovering 198 marijuana plants and hundreds of dollars in
grow equipment.
"Landlords need to check what and who they have in their houses," said
Corporal Len Laseur. "There are all kinds of little signs" that shows that
a property maybe being used for illegal activities, said Laseur. Both
neighbours and landlords should be watching for tenants who are rarely
home, who leave the lawn unmowed, leave the windows darkened, never speak
and never seem to ever put garbage out on the street, says Laseur.
The River Parade had been converted to a full growing environment report
police, after the hydro meter was bypassed.
A 39-year-old Vancouver man Si Cuong On has been charged and made his first
appearance in Chilliwack court.
Police had seized 118 plants from other tenants in the same rental home on
Oct. 31, 2000.
In a second drug bust on the same day Hope Highway Patrol seized 800 hits
of Crystal Methamphetamine and 300 hits of the drug known as Ecstasy, which
police believe was bound for Saskatchewan. The driver caught the police's
attention for speeding.
A Saskatoon man, Fung Hui, 21, was arrested and charged with possession for
the purpose of trafficking.
He appeared in Chilliwack court and was turned over to Immigration Canada
officials.
Another search for drugs at a routine police road block had police coming
up empty until a large bag was discovered containing between $50,000 -
$100,000 in cash.
The money was not being claimed by the occupant of the vehicle triggering
an investigation under the Proceeds of Crime legislation.
Another search of a car turned up a .32 hand gun and ammunition in the
trunk and another 20 grams of crystal meth, in the possession of a 21-year
old Chilliwack female. Not charges have been laid and the investigation is
continuing into the woman, her 23-year-old husband and a 26 year old local man.
