OXYCONTIN ABUSERS SHOULDN'T BE PAID
I, for one, totally agree with the man who wrote the recent letter
here saying that people who abuse OxyContin should not be able to be
compensated for being junkies. And I don't believe the families of
people who overdose from abusing the drug should be compensated
either.
This medicine is prescribed for terminally ill cancer patients and
other individuals who have chronic pain from auto accidents or back
problems. It's intended to be taken orally, not crushed and sniffed.
This small population of abusers is giving many doctors -- and those
who really need the drug -- a bad name. In some instances, people who
need the drug may not be able to get it.
I wonder how these worthless people manage to sleep at night. If
someone is abusing the drug and dies as a result, that's exactly what
he or she deserves. By now there's been more than enough publicity
about the dangers of abusing the drug to make people stop and think
rather than doing so.
