MINEOLA: ASSET SEIZURE FOR DRUG OFFENSE
In one of Nassau County's largest asset seizures for a drug-related
offense, the Nassau County district attorney's office has seized $750,000
from the estate of a man who committed suicide after being arrested for
dealing drugs. The man, Robert Vorbeck of Queens, was arrested in July 1999
on charges of selling cocaine in Nassau, Queens and Suffolk Counties. Two
weeks later, he committed suicide in jail. Under state law, a prosecutor
can seek forfeiture of any asset obtained during criminal activity. Denis
Dillon, the district attorney, had sought all of Mr. Vorbeck's assets, but
settled with the estate administrator for drug-related assets. Tara
