Infant Died After Being Burned In Reported Meth Lab Fire

A Rossville, Ga., couple wanted for the murder of their 15-month-old son
were arrested in Daviess County Wednesday by the Owensboro Police Department.

Suzette Marie Calloway, 27, was arrested at 8:54 p.m. Wednesday after a
Wal-Mart employee called OPD with information about a woman who purchased
precursors for the production of methamphetamine, said Police Chief Allen
Dixon during a news conference.

Officers located Calloway leaving Target at 5151 Frederica St., then
stopped her for a traffic violation while she was driving on U.S. 60 East.

Calloway gave officers a false name, but her true identity was discovered
when her operator's license was found in the vehicle. Nine boxes of
pseudoephedrine were found during a search of the vehicle, Detective Joe
Moran said.

Christopher Hicks, 30, was located and arrested at 1 a.m. Thursday at a
home of one of Calloway's relatives in eastern Daviess County.

They were being held at the Daviess County Detention Center Thursday
without bond.

A search of Calloway's name with the National Crime Information Center
revealed she and Hicks were wanted for murder in connection with the death
of their child, Dixon said.

Moran said it is believed the couple has been in the Owensboro area for
about two to three weeks.

According to a report from the Catoosa County Sheriff's Office in Ringgold,
Ga., Shelton Hicks, the couple's son, died June 16 from complications
stemming from severe burns suffered in a fire.

Investigation of a fire at the couple's residence on Feb. 17 revealed fumes
from the operation of a methamphetamine lab ignited when a space heater was
turned on, causing an explosion inside the residence.

Shelton Hicks received severe burns over 30 percent of his body and was
treated for an extended period at Shriner's Burn Unit in Cincinnati, the
Catoosa County Sheriff's report said.

The infant was released from Shriner's Burn Unit into the custody of foster
parents but went into cardiac arrest June 14.

Calloway and Hicks only received minor injuries during the blaze.

The couple fled police after they posted bail in February when they were
arrested on charges of manufacturing methamphetamine, Moran said.

Murder charges were added after the death of Shelton Hicks.
