METH-MAKING CHARGES FILED AGAINST THREE
MACOMB - A shopping spree through Macomb for cold medicine landed people in
jail over the weekend on drug charges, according to authorities.
Brandon S. Wilson, 17, of Avon and Theresa M. Dawson, 30, and Jon Anderson,
32, both of Prairie City, appeared Monday in McDonough County Circuit Court.
They were charged with unlawful manufacture of a controlled substance
(methamphetamine), a Class 2 felony, and unlawful chemical breakdown of an
illicit controlled substance, a Class 4 felony.
Police were called when the three purchased "large amounts" of cold tablets
containing pseudoephedrine at the Wal-Mart store.
They were observed purchasing camping fuel at the Farm King store and more
cold tablets as Osco Drug, K-Mart and Niemann's food store in Macomb,
police said.
Police said officers stopped the car for speeding on West Jackson Street in
Macomb. The car was searched, and two cans of starting fluid were found.
Pseudoephedrine tablets, camping fuel and starter fluid are common
ingredients in the manufacture of methamphetamine.
Dawson and Wilson are being held in the McDonough County Jail on $30,000
bond, and Anderson is being held on $75,000 bond.
A preliminary hearing for all three defendants is scheduled for Aug. 6.
