REEFER RESEARCH
The "research" to which Timothy Gower referred in his column regarding the
health aspects of marijuana ["The Healthy Man," July 10] was done without
any controls and was never repeated. It amazes me how little logic is
needed to convince otherwise sensible people of the supposed evils of pot.
Reefer madness is alive and well.
Why would somone who has little regard for his or her health not smoke pot?
We have an inappropriate "correlation equals causation" thing going on here.
Marijuana doesn't force people to make unhealthy choices, even if people
who make unhealthy choices frequently smoke pot.
I am a marathon-running, century-cycling, extremely healthy pot smoker (I
just ran a 6-minute mile). When I get the munchies - regardless of whether
they're induced by pot or exercise - I choose to eat non-processed fruits
and grains.
People, not plants, are responsible for their actions - as is exemplified
by the bad journalism for which Glower himself, not anything he chooses to
put in his body, is responsible.
