DRUG ADDICTION IS SLAVERY
Robert Stewart suggests that all Hugh O'Connor needed was drug treatment
("DA is wrong on drug use," letter, June 13). Unfortunately, all too often
this treatment doesn't work, especially when dealers lure their victims
back on drugs.
This is why Hugh's father, Carroll O'Connor, opposed Question 8, which
would have kept dealers in business. In desperation, many addicts like Hugh
O'Connor kill themselves, often through intentional overdose. Addiction is
slavery, and that's that.
