FIVE IRANIAN POLICE SLAPPED WITH JAIL FOR "DRUG DEALING"
SHIRAZ. A revolutionary court in southern Iran has given yet unspecified
jail sentences to five police officers for "dealing drugs" and "complicity
with armed robbers", the provincial justice department chief said Sunday.
"The policemen had seized 70 kilograms of opium from a truck and pushed
them," Hossein-Ali Amiri told IRNA.
He said that the provincial security forces had identified them.
"Initially, seven policemen went on trial, but two of them were acquitted,"
he added.
Amiri said that the convicts will also be barred from public office.
He did not give details on the jail terms, nor did he mention their names.
