DRUG-BUST CASE ADJOURNED

FOUR people charged in the city's biggest ecstasy drug seizure -- including
a Winnipeg radio personality -- made their first court appearances yesterday.

Lawyers for the accused requested a three-week adjournment so the Crown can
turn over evidence gathered by police. They will next appear in court Aug. 8.

Undercover vice officers found almost 2,400 pills with a street value of
$60,000 during a raid late last month at a Country Club Boulevard home.

Police say it's another sign that use of the drug, which began as a
favourite at all-night dance parties known as raves but has since moved
into the mainstream, is expanding in the city.

Joanne Cochrane, 29, a radio personality on Power 97 FM, was arrested,
along with Tyler McLeod, 28, Sean Wilson, 22, and Gordon Russell, 45.

Police say Cochrane and McLeod were residents of the home.

Defence lawyer Hymie Weinstein appeared in court yesterday on behalf of
Cochrane.

During the search, police also found a dozen marijuana plants and three
grams of cocaine. Officers seized $28,000 in cash and a 1989 Chevrolet
pickup truck believed to be used in the drug operation.
