METH ALERT TACTICS EXCESSIVE
Leave it to Wal-Mart and drug war-crazed police to call down the heat of
the emerging American police state on unsuspecting buyers of tin-foil,
steel wool, and cold medicine. In your story ("Police May Put Stores On
Meth Alert," DI, July 5) Ubersturmfuhrer Ron Wenman, when asked about the
99.99999 percent of people buying these products who are innocent of
anything worse than patronizing Wal-Mart, actually says: "I can't say that
doesn't happen. But most people don't have a problem [being questioned] if
they have nothing to hide." And that on the day after the Fourth of July,
the day we're supposed to celebrate the fiction that we live in "The Land
Of The Free." It used to be that we sent our sons overseas to fight and die
protecting us against such threats!
