VERMONT: STATE WON'T COVER PAINKILLER
Gov. Howard Dean said a state welfare program would stop paying for
prescriptions for the painkiller OxyContin. Governor Dean, a doctor, said
that the drug had too much potential for abuse and that it had created a
wave of pharmacy robberies. The decision to cut off OxyContin coverage
affects about 70 people, and is the first such action by a state.
