THE DRUG PARADOX

What do you think the biggest single business in America is today?

Our guess is that it's illegal drugs. Foolish people are illegally buying
billions of dollars worth of substances that everyone knows destroys the
quality of life, victimizes many and actually kills after long (but
sometimes short) periods of pain and anguish.

But have you heard anyone complaining lately about the "high cost" of
marijuana, or crack, or cocaine, or heroin, or methamphetamines, or
ecstasy, or any of the other destructive, addictive things popular today?

While many billions of dollars are spent on illegal drugs that sicken and
kill, billions of dollars more are spent on legally prescribed drugs that
improve the quality of life, cure illnesses and stave off death. They cost
a lot, too -- and there are great complaints about their high cost.

It's fanciful, of course, but just think what would happen if we could
divert the illegal drug money from that market, saving the users and
cutting law enforcement costs, and direct it to buying really beneficial
drugs for the people who need them.

Isn't it strange how such good and evil situations prevail side by side in
the illegal and legal drug markets that our people patronize?
