MP CRITICIZED FOR DRUG STANCE

MP Abbott is just plain wrong when he says, "Families expect their
government will use every tool at its disposal to ensure that illegal
drugs are kept off the streets." In fact, citizens rightfully expect
their government to use the correct tool for the job. Would MP Abbott
change a flat tire with a pitchfork?

A punitive, lock 'em up, get tough on drugs policy has proven to be an
inferior tool here in the U.S. as far as keeping drugs off the street
and reducing crime. It has proven to be a jim dandy little gadget for
guaranteeing lifetime employment to lots of prison guards though, so I
guess it's not all bad.
