FOR COMPARISON'S SAKE

"Florida's prisons hold 48 percent blacks," stated a front-page headline
July 25. But 78 percent of the blacks in Florida prisons are there because
of drug-related activity, and more than half of that was nonviolent.

All bad but mild compared with the evils committed by white people in the
Oklahoma City bombing and the school shootings at Pearl, Miss.; Paducah,
Ky.; Edinboro, Pa.; Jonesboro, Ark.; Springfield, Ore.; and Littleton,
Colo.; to say nothing of the disasters induced by white religious nuts at
Jonestown, Waco and Heaven's Gate.

Let's be fair.
