LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS PREPARING FOR NATIONAL NIGHT OUT

Local law enforcement agencies will team up next week to give crime and
drugs a going away party.

Law enforcement agencies across the county will hold National Night Out
events Tuesday evening.

This event - which has been held nationally for 18 years - is a crime and
drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch
and co-sponsored local law enforcement agencies.

The evening is intended to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness,
generate support for and participation in local anti-crime effort,
strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnership and send a
message to criminals that neighbors are fighting back.

Tuesday night residents are asked to lock their doors, turn on the outside
lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police.

Salisbury

n District I - Officers in district one will be in the parking lot of
Salisbury Mall from 7 to 10 p.m.

Rowan County Alcohol Beverage Control officers will also be at Salisbury
Mall with the Fatal Vision Program. The program allows people to drive a
golf cart through a series of cones, then put on goggles that give the
effect of being intoxicated and drive through the same series of cones. ABC
is also sponsoring a booth with the Allies for Substance Abuse Prevention,
ASAP, with substance abuse prevention information.

District II - Cannon Park will house District II's events for the evening
beginning also at 7 p.m. on Park Avenue. The park's new Bank shot
basketball court is expected to be open for the evening.

a.. District III - Officers will join members of the community on the
campus of Livingstone College.

Rockwell

Rockwell Police are hosting their event at Rockwell Park beginning at 6:30
p.m. Members of the Rockwell Fire Department will be there along with
McGruff the crime dog, Buckle Bear and a canine demonstration.

ABC Police and ASAP will also have the Fatal Vision Program and substance
abuse prevention booth at Rockwell Park.

Granite Quarry

Residents of Granite Quarry will gather at the town park. There will be
food and demonstrations.

Kannapolis

Village Park will be the scene for the events in Kannapolis beginning at 7
p.m. Mayor Ray Moss and Cabarrus County Sheriff Brad Riley are scheduled to
speak. Radio Disney will provide entertainment and food will be for sale.

The Kannapolis Police Department will offer crime fighting and safety tips
and do a canine demonstration. Kannapolis firefighters will have their fire
safety house and ladder truck, Cabarrus EMS will have several emergency
vehicles there, the Cabarrus Sheriff's Department will have a bomb truck
and bomb-retrieving robot, Carolina's Medical Center will have a helicopter
and McGruff the crime dog will be there.
