WAR ON DRUGS

ReRock open to legal marijuana, Aug. 3.

The best of luck to the Canadian government in legalizing marijuana. You
can expect a great deal of resistance from the United States because many
people, industries and institutions have a vested interest in perpetuating
our war on drugs. The successful lifting of the prohibition on marijuana
will not look good to those interests.

As to what message this would have for children, it should be that it is
not the proper role of a free country's government to protect its citizens
from themselves. Such a government does not jail its citizens for eating
unhealthy foods. Nor should it jail its citizens for putting other
potentially unhealthy substances into their bodies.
