POT RULES A BUST
If ever a piece of legislation was asinine, the federal Liberals'
regulations on medical marijuana is it.
What's being trumpeted as a caring and compassionate act is nothing
more than a sugar-coated placebo. Already, it's a nightmare.
The people it's intended to help could very well end up dead before
they are able to jump through the bureaucratic hoops and wade through
the sea of red tape.
A Kamloops-area man (see page 1), who is suffering from a
debilitating disease, could have his pain eased by using marijuana.
However, his misery has just been increased by Health Canada.
While his physician has filled out all the necessary forms to allow
him to use and grow pot, the man's application has been turned down.
Why?
The doctor and the specialist, who agreed medicinal marijuana use
would be valuable for the victim, live in Vancouver.
Health Canada, in its wisdom, has determined the man doesn't meet the
necessary criteria because the forms weren't filled out by a Kamloops
doctor and specialist.
Rather naively, we suggest, she told the man he can start the
application system again.
There is a problem, however. He could very well be dead before all
the Is are dotted and Ts are crossed.
Surely, the doctors in Vancouver are as competent as the doctors
here. In its headlong rush to gain international recognition for
legalizing medical marijuana use, it seems the Grits have used very
little grey matter in determining the handling of the green matter.
Health Minister Alan Rock has been in the news recently visiting Flin
Flon's now-famous underground grow op. He was all smiles as he held
the leafy stuff up for the cameras.
However, those who need the pot the most fear it won't have enough
potency to ease their pain.
Where are the people who need the marijuana supposed to get the money
to grow pot? Many of these people have already exhausted their
financial resources trying to ease their pain.
Yes, Ottawa gave them the OK to grow pot, but the feds aren't
supplying the equipment to do it.
However, there may be an answer.
Perhaps, the RCMP can donate the confiscated equipment from the
illegal grow operations they bust.
In turn, this equipment could be used for a communal grow operation
and run much like the community gardens which already exist.
