EURO EXPERTS TELL OF STRATEGY

SWEDISH and Swiss drug strategy experts will be among speakers at the summit.

One hundred delegates from varied backgrounds will listen to speakers
on a broad range of topics about illicit drugs.

At the end of the summit, they will form a list of recommendations
which will be considered by the State Government.

Torgny Peterson, director of Sweden's Hassela Educational Foundation,
will address the summit on the Swedish approach to illicit drugs.

Martin Hosek, of the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health, will talk
about the Swiss experience in drug strategies.

Sweden has a restrictive approach to illicit drugs, including
compulsory rehabilitation.

Switzerland has a four-pronged approach of prevention, therapy, harm
reduction including heroin prescription, and repression.

Child Health Research Institute director Fiona Stanley will also
speak at the morning session.

Proceedings in the chamber can be seen at the Drug Summit Web site at
www.drugsummit.health.wa.gov.au

The site also has speaker information.
