STOP DISCRIMINATION AGAINST SUBCULTURES
Bravo for the thoughtful and balanced "The Death of Disco" (Aug 5). The
federal "crackdown" on dance clubs is nothing short of an attack on an
entire subculture of our society, allegedly due to a vague connection with
drugs.
(I guess the feds don't realize that drug use permeates almost every part
of our society, and that it's just more obvious at clubs.) When will we learn?
We did it to the blacks, to women, and then to the gays. I'm not sure if
discrimination based on the kind of music you listen to is more or less
distasteful than skin color, gender, or sexual orientation, but I do know
one thing: I'm ready for us to stop discriminating against ANY subculture.
