THREE IRA MEMBERS ARRESTED IN BOGOTA
COLOMBIA - Three members of the Irish Republican Army were arrested in
Bogota after training Colombian rebels in explosives and terrorist tactics,
the military said Monday.
Defense Minister Gustavo Bell said the three men were captured Saturday
after spending five weeks training members of the Revolutionary Armed
Forces of Colombia, or FARC, in a rebel safe haven in southern Colombia.
Colombian officials said tests on the clothing of the three turned up
traces of four different kinds of explosives and of cocaine and
amphetamines. FARC rebels are involved in cocaine production in Colombia,
which earns them millions of dollars in profits.
