BOUNTY HUNTER'S GUNPLAY BRINGS THREE CHARGES

Prosecutors filed three charges of second-degree assault Wednesday against
bounty hunter Corey Allen Scheer.

Scheer, 31, posted $150,000 cash bail Tuesday. His next court appearance
will be Friday, said deputy prosecutor Mike Dodds.

On Aug. 10, Scheer was allegedly attempting to apprehend a 23-year-old
woman who had missed a court appearance on a misdemeanor charge of
possessing marijuana.

He is accused of jumping on her Camaro and later firing two shots from his
.45-caliber pistol as she drove down Ash Street near Harney Elementary School.

He also is suspected of pointing his gun at the woman's uncle, who
approached him and asked what he was doing.

Dodds said he charged Scheer with one count of second-degree assault with a
firearm for firing at Jennifer M. Allen, the woman he was trying to
apprehend. The other two counts of second-degree assault are for pointing a
gun at Ronald Hentz, Allen's uncle, and for endangering Becky Lang, who was
driving her car down the street.

Those two counts don't include a firearm enhancement, which carries a
mandatory three-year sentence. "That's the call we've made at this time,"
Dodds said. "Jennifer's car was actually struck by the bullet."

Second-degree assault, a felony, has a sentencing range of three to nine
months for first-time offenders.
